“It has been very interesting to use the kit with the class. Voting using the marbles, the students were able to be honest without worrying about any judgement.”

I was very surprised how many took their phones/devices to bed and used them during very late and early hours of the night! Their engagement and maturity - they were very focused and absolutely understood at the end what it meant to be one person (offline and online) and were able to discuss in detail what this

“I have absolutely enjoyed teaching this content and learning so much about my students. The discussions were very honest with most participating. Those that didn't were definitely listening and taking it all in. This is something that we, as a team, have decided to add to our Anti Bullying unit at the beginning of each year.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their willingness to be share their experiences.

“This was a fascinating resource as it was a real eye opener for me. I had no idea that my students were exposed that much and that so many of them had similar experiences. I used the activity for my Year 4/5 students towards the end of the year, so it was manageable for this age group but I had to modify some activities. I am really glad that we got to use this resource as us teachers have been discussing digital safety quite a lot. The teacher responsible for digital technology has planned to focus our school on digital safety next year and so my students will be to contribute next year.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? The things I thought were common knowledge wasn't. They couldn't see the connection between their behaviour online vs. offline and the boundaries are there to keep them safe.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? That they know what is acceptable behaviour online but choose not to follow it. Many of them have felt insecure and found themselves in a awkward situation but did not tell anyone out of fear of getting in trouble or feeling they could deal with it alone.

“Due to the increase in online learning and google classroom, I was excited to get this kit. The resources where easy to use and motivated a good discussion amongst the learners, This kit opened my eyes to what our learners are feeling and is relevant to todays world. It is great great that we can access the facebook posts for extra clarity and guidance.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I knew that students where being exposed to things at a younger age but didn't realise how much. This kit has opened my eyes to what they are seeing, hearing and doing online as well as opening up dialogue between them and I. They know share openly.
