Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I have a great relationship with my class and like to think they are able to talk open and freely about anything so we didn't have any awkward moments. Everything was targeted and delivered at an appropriate level so I was comfortable throughout the entir

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The varying degrees of what they are allowed and not allowed to do online while at home.

“This kit has been super valuable for my class of year 5 and 6 students. I found it really beneficial, especially the discussion that resulted around the majority of the activities. The content was relatable and suitable for the kids and they were comfortable sharing their ideas and thoughts (great for this time of year when they all know each other so well). The voting system was a highlight and they were always eager to see the results with the marble system. I would definitely be keen to run this unit again with another group of students.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They didn't. Same social issues were happening both offline and online.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Have taught this level for 30 years so very comfortable. I try not to bring any prejudices or personal views into it too often. Students seemed comfortable also and they seem very aware of how to stay safe.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The way they became involved in the small group discussions and were able to feed back openly and more honestly than expected. I was pleased that they also felt able to discuss some of the issues at home with their parents/guardians.

“A useful unit on keeping safe. Would have preferred to have done the unit last term or earlier this term but this year has been particularly busy curriculum wise. I planned each lesson for consecutive days and kept it to 35-45 minutes maximum.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? They didn't really. Probably because my own children are this age and I am the ICT leader maybe.

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was unaware quite how much access my young class has to the digital world without much supervision and monitoring.

I thought there would have been more issues, children quite aware of what to do in certain situations, still affects some children more than others ( perception, anxiety, over thinkers) while others let it wash over them and don't over analyse and quite p

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their knowledge or what they think they know! vulnerability, willingness to learn, wanting to change behaviours in others!

“This Kit fitted in perfectly with another programme we have running - regarding self esteem, media bias, stereotypes, positive self talk etc... It dovetailed nicely. This is a topic that effects ALL students and was relevant to everyone. Super important to keep giving these messages and do deliberate acts of teaching.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I knew they would understand that the person online is the same off life. However, their own take on how they would handle the situations/scenarios were interesting. It gave a good insight into their morals and what they believe should happen.

The kit was well put together to help support us with this uncertainty.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How mature the students approached the topics.

“What an amazing kit! I was a little unsure how this would go down with the children however, they were really great about it. Over the years, there had been problems with children and their online behaviours. The kit was well put together, easy to understand and follow. It promoted a lot of thought and discussion. Many had been asking me if we were doing sexuality education this term, this was a good way to add to this part of their learning with the Y8 curriculum focusing on relationships.”

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Again, we were not surprised but proud of how willing and open our students were to discuss experiences and learn new strategys.

“Digital safety is such an important part of education these days. We used the kit as part of our puberty unit where we looked at changing relationships, moods, values and feelings. The materials were easily accessible and the discussion starters meant that all children were involved regardless of their online experiences.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? We have frequently had discussions on this topic before, as as a class we have had to deal with some of these issues. Therefore we were not surprised by some of the content that came out.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? We were not surprised, but really proud of how open to discussions our students were, even if they were feeling slightly uncomfortable.

“Digital safety is such an important part of education these days. We used the kit as part of our Sexuality unit, where we looked at changing relationships, moods, values and feelings. The materials were easily accessible and the discussion starters meant that all children involved regardless of their online experiences.”
