In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Having taught this class for the past two years, I have had a finger on their online/inline pulse since the beginning. As they have 'matured' we have been able to discuss and grow as a class. It has been a gradual growth change for us all.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The very 'mature' attitudes/knowledge of a couple of my male students. Obviously parental monitoring is not a thing that is used at home.

“Extremely thought provoking with excellent discussion resulting. Major learning curve for some who were not quite so caring re others' feelings at the beginning of the unit.”

I have addressed these topics before so I felt fairly comfortable already, but the kit structured and supported the teacher

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? The class had a range of safety precautions in place already, that surprised me. They have rules that they stick too most of the time when at home.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How much trouble they had making a decision using the 8 points of view.

“This was an interesting and well resourced unit to teach. I enjoyed the move away from right and wrong decision making to thinking about situations in a broader sense and with empathy. This challenged my students and I think allowed some to reconsider the process of decision making.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Realised that more kids had been exposed to things online than I thought would have, or had searched it themselves. Insight into just how easy/ accessible inappropriate content is.

Was interesting doing the Out of Line activities- and having students have to think about the perspectives from both sides. Many students found it difficult to put themselves in another persons shoes.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How much they struggled with the philosophical thinking

“The 'Wise Response' and 'That's Out of Line' cards were great for getting discussion going around different points of view, as well as emotions. However, my class really struggled with thinking philosophically and thinking in a different way to ";just what I'd do";. I took some time digging in, but did not see any real gains from this. They were also confused further by the TED-Ed talks, again due to the complex ideas and language.”
