In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I hadn't realised how exposed they were to certain aspects of the web. It took awhile for students to be truthful (even during the marbles). How they approach situations in class is very different to how they approach them online.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I was comfortable. It would be a different story if this was at the start of the year the ";difficult"; topics would be a bit tricker.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How they related to each other. Many of my students have struggled to maintain positive relationships within the classroom. Their knowledge on how to behave online is much stronger than I first thought.

“I really liked some of the tasks that could be completed with the class. The instructions are rather confusing and I suppose I was unsure how much time to allocate to each section to complete.”

“This was a great way to discuss digital behaviours and was so good to not have to use devices for a change!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I guess I wasn’t fully aware of what they were doing online or how much time they were spending online - after talking about this even my students were surprised.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Students could easily identify acceptable online and offline behaviour but peer pressure often means they don’t follow through

“We have thoroughly enjoyed working through this school kit! The topics covered have provided Room 16 with some great discussion points and students have become more aware of decisions they are making when working online!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I found it eye opening what students had experienced online. I think I was quite naive as to what my students did/ did not know and what they had/ had not experienced. I was also surprised how keen they were to talk about difficult topics.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was surprised just how much they wanted to talk about this topic and how many experiences they had. They were all very empathetic towards each other and what they had experienced.

“Students really enjoyed the variety of tasks and relevant scenarios. Started really engaging conversations that parents also were keen to get involved with! Loved the range of sharing strategies e.g. the black and white marble voting - a system that we have applied to other areas of our learning as well!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I found it quite confronting how many of the students had been exposed to problematic content online.... I was aware of the statistics, of course, but so many of my kids hadn't mentioned anything about the things they see online that I just didn't realise

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Not really surprised- but frustrating that they're able to say all the 'right' things but don't apply them.

“I'm really enjoying the complex discussions we're able to have with this kit. It links perfectly into lots of our curriculum that we're already teaching this term, which is fantastic! It has been difficult to follow the planning, finding it's not really broken down enough and it takes us (collaborative team) a while to get our head around it!”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit As said above, I have Year 4-6 students so I censored some of the more explicit content for them. However I was comfortable discussing this with them, as I felt it was of importance due to the high involvement of online activity.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The complete honesty and transparency of the students with the situations they have faced both online and offline.

“An absolutely fantastic kit, was highly engaging for students. This kit allowed students the opportunity to critically think about the role they play both online and offline. I really enjoyed the scenario cards , they allowed for me to pick and choose what content was appropriate for my Year 4, 5 and 6. They also allowed me to target specific areas of concern with the students. The students enjoyed the opportunity to vote anonymously, allowing for honesty and reflection on their actions.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? No as we had already had some issues arise that were disturbing which is why I wanted to do the kit.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their openess to discuss things they had faced online.

“A very useful kit in making students aware of issues that have and could develop when using online technologies. It is very well resourced and supported and right on theme for what is happening to our young people today. Though there were some uncomfortable situations shared it was positive to see how the students knew what was okay and what was not and the best way to handle any issues that came up.”
