What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? Their maturity in dealing with things and the issues they faced. I was also surprised by some of the lack of knowledge around their safety online!

“This resource had a lot of really good information that has helped shaped some interesting conversations in my classroom. We had many online issues that this kit helped to 'solve'. This kit would be so beneficial at the beginning of the year when you are setting up expectations and helping them to keep safe online. I am carrying this programme through until the end of the year as it isn't one of those 'do it and forget about it'. A lot of really rich discussion came out of this kit!”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? My class were already fully aware of the issues relevant to them and how they should handle themselves in various situations. Sadly, some of them can talk the talk but not always walk the walk so hopefully, through serious discussion some of their actions

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How mature they are and how unphased by quite full on some of the situations discussed were.

“Students enjoyed discussing their online and offline presence and began to make the connection that these personalities should be the same. I personally found the lesson plan format hard to follow and understand and when I posted my pictures on the Facebook page I had obviously completed it completely wrong as this is how I had interpreted the vague instructions.”

“Loved the boundaries, but some of the task cards were not overly relevant to Year 7/8.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Without sounding arrogant, our team did anticipate well the feedback and conversation amongst our students. Either way, this conversation was still valuable to us all.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit Our team felt that as long as the students were prepped and understood that some topics may be heavy, we were able to engage in this dialogue. As long as the students knew they were in a safe place, we were happy to tackle these difficult topics.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? The depth of their thinking around what could be viewed as sometimes controversial issues. Also the maturity and understanding of peers during discussion time.

“The theme around this terms school kit was really engaging with students, due to the relevance of 21st century learning and easy access to digital communication. Dialogue was rich, with plenty of conversation around behaviours and expectations, linking and scaffolding well from the concept of boundaries. Teaching collaboratively with our team on this topic was valuable as well. All four of us teachers were able to pick up a section of the planning sheet, and focus on developing quality lessons ensuring all students were able to walk away vocalising and discussing ideas covered. The planning sheet was also easily adaptable, meaning that our team were able to stretch out or compact sessions depending on our weekly schedules. Overall, this school kit came at the best time for our Year 7 &; 8 students, particularly at this time of their lives where they are learning the importance of positive relationships.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? Thoughtful responses to the 'That's Out of Line' cards were fantastic to see. I didn't share a few of the more mature cards as responses to the other cards indicated the students hadn't been exposed to that type of content yet.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I thought more may have seen content that made them uncomfortable, however both in and out of school the students as a whole seem to be well monitored in their online usage.

“I used this kit to teach 56 students recently. Thoughtful discussions were prompted, use of language analysed, behaviours both on and offline dissected as we navigated the tasks and challenges set. Thanks for a fantastic kit SchoolKit, please know how much I appreciate the amazing mahi put into every kit sent out to us lucky learners.”
