In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I was amazed by how many were willingly engaging in risky online behaviour that they did not identify as risky.

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit I felt very comfortable delivering this content to my class. We used this as part of our navigating the journey work and this was a positive extra that students were very engaged in.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? How open they were to discuss how online life influences them and their decisions. How many of the kids hide their online life from parents, or parents do not monitor their device or their device time.

“This was an awesome kit to use with our Year 7 class. We had a lot of discussions about what we knew was safe but what we did anyway and where this could lead. Loved the marble system for voting. Lots of students were really thinking about their responses to these questions.”

“This was a great kit, very relevant for my class in conjunction with our Keeping Ourselves Safe Unit. Students enjoyed discussing topics from their own personal experiences.”

“It was good, although we feel that for our level of year 7/8 it did lack a bit of maturity.”

In what way did your perception of the issues relevant to your class change? I learnt that despite their age my class of Y7/8's is a lot less innocent in terms of what I thought they have been exposed to.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? I was impressed by the way they exhibited maturity beyond their years in terms of making smart choices.

“The SDB kit was great! I'm sure it will help my students make safer choices in the future. The initial OFFLINE/ONLINE boundaries activity was a little ambiguous (thanks for examples on Facebook). The 'That's Out of Line' activity had the highest level of engagement with no passive learners. Overall the kit was beautifully presented and gave a lot of ideas to run with. This aside the 'That's out of Line' activity was fantastic! This activity definitely had the highest level of engagement (great discussions with no passive learners). Overall a great kit!”

Please describe your comfort level in delivering the more mature content within this kit As I teach the majority of my class for more than one year we have developed relationships based on a high trust and respectful model. I felt very comfortable speaking about the issues with them.

What was something that surprised you about your class throughout the teaching and learning of this kit? It would have to be how many students are online chatting with strangers and the lack of parental supervision.

“I love the way we filled out posters and related offline to online behaviours. This sparked up a lot of conversation about rules, boundaries and values we all have. Discussion was also held about who they are conversing with. I also enjoyed the children responding to each others questions so it was student led as well. I have posted photos on Facebook.”

“Although it took us a long time to get our head around how this worked it made our children really think about actions and how it can impact someone else.”
