“This kit proved to be a great jumping off point in allowing our students the opportunity to investigate the effect litter has on our environment. The kids were extremely excited to collect litter at our local park and were astounded to find out how much was hiding there. This kit allowed them to make connections between their own waste and how it can affect our world and the creatures within it.”
“The children really enjoyed the hands on activities. We cleaned rubbish in our school and were meant to be on a trip today to clean up at the Blue Lake near Rotorua, and have a picnic and fun day out. We were going to bring the rubbish that we collected back to school and then have a big sort tomorrow. The children are really disappointed that due to the weather our trip has had to be cancelled.
Hopefully we will get a chance to pick up more rubbish at school and do a sort.
Our class loved the video clips and were particularly interested in the turtles and how rubbish is affecting them. They have written about ";what happens to plastic in the waterways";, and have done artwork about turtles and recycling.
Many thanks for the kit, we will continue to use the gloves and keep on with the rubbish collecting and being mindful of recycling.”
“An awesome initiative to get kids thinking about protecting out environment! I was very impressed with the kids and the resources available. It was so easy having everything provided for you and just picking up the kit and running with it. I managed to get 2 other classrooms involved with our clean up day too! I have one suggestion to add to the kit for next time. We love youngoceanexplorers - an interactive website special for schools. I would love to see them promoted on your teacher pack next time, we have been using them for a couple years now and their content is very child focused. They are also a New Zealand company and doing great things for the environment also!

“The children from our Year 5 Whare loved visiting Dolbel Reserve in our local environment. We had whanau come and help us to pick up rubbish as well. Any litter from Dolbel Reserve has the potential to go into Taipo Stream. When we returned to school we got into groups and sorted the rubbish to be able to fill in our big sheet.”
