I had a good look at this kit and it looks awesome! But I won't be using it until next year, where it fits perfectly into our waterways learning focus.

We found the kit very useful - we went to New Brighton beach in Christchurch for a couple of hours to collect our rubbish. A lot of the rubbish we found was smaller than a $2 coin. We took sieves with us but thought this could have been an added part of the kit to help filter sand from these small plastics. We loved the gloves and this allowed students the opportunity to pick up dirty pieces of rubbish easily. We are also reusing them through our school as gardening gloves for our Edible Gardens program. The only negative from the experiences was that the paper bags were gigantic - I don't know if it was the space we picked to clean up but they were too big. We only managed to fill one 3/4 of the way. The students engaged in the kit and really liked seeing what type of rubbish was most common. They enjoyed being able to hypothesis and consider what impacts this might have for future sea life.

It was an amazing Kit, we found a crazy amount of rubbish around the school and created some 'art' rubbish onto the images - We posted this on Facebook. The class are a lot more aware of the rubbish and actively pick it up now!

Was an awesome exercise for out math and our social environment. We have a river by our school and the students now realise the importance of looking after our waterways. Photos were posted on FBook page.

I loved how it was a call to action as much as a study of plastic waste. We have had lots of fun and good learning collecting rubbish from our rugby club creek. This is part of a wider study on water management in the our area.

We loved this kit! Great learning and the resource links were really helpful! The students were really engaged with the kit and learned heaps. They enjoyed cleaning up the beach and our school and really understood the impact that they were making for the environment. It was an awesome extension from our term 3 learning!

This kit was great motivation for us to get outside to pick up rubbish and care for our environment. We have done some cleaning around our school and investigated into how the drains link to our waterways. We have a team whakatauki which means 'even the small can make a big impact', so we have used this to drive our inquiry into how we can make an impact on cleaning our local waterways. By cleaning our school grounds, we are preventing rubbish from going down the drains. Next week for our big team day out to celebrate our year, we are going to one of our local lakes. On this trip, we will be taking the rubbish bags and gloves to collect rubbish around the walkways and around the lake. We will then investigate into what categories of rubbish we found. A big thank you for the idea and for all of the resources you have provided. We really appreciate it. Thanks!
