“My class of Year 2 students had just studied the sea and the Hauraki Gulf. We used the gloves each lunchtime and playtime to collect rubbish around our school. Children from other classes are keen to help also. They even ask where the gloves are now. I just wash them and bring them back to school. 3 of our middle school classes did a beach trip to collect rubbish also. Thanks for the wonderful resources as we aim to be a gold enviro school! “A fabulous kit. Easy to use in class. Thought provoking. Children loved filling out the data sheet. Disrupted because of covid but still did a school cleanup and some students dud during lockdown. Found a cool resource on vimeo about a man in Indonesia picking up rubbish from sea. Students motivated. Also got some Seacleaners staff to present to children and reinforce messaging.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? A lot. We designed machines to clean up waterways on Minecraft and read a lot of different articles.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It was a very busy term and do not feel like I could dedicate as much time to the learning opportunities that came up.
