We already integrated NZ Native animals that all rely on clean water either as their habitat or to drink. We incorporated the Water Cycle and Stages of a river.

Students are now looking and noticing rubbish, especially plastic and pick up rubbish when they see it. They understand the concept of micro plastics and that all animals and people are negatively affected by it.
