In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? Our tamariki are fortunate to live close to a beautiful beach. They were horrified to learn that the plastic from their lunches can end up in the sea. Many of our whanau are now very consciously thinking about packaging in their lunches now.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have moved onto a technology focus, where we are designing and creating something that has a positive impact on the environment. We have discussed how the gloves provided were not made of plastic and were therefore better for the environment.

“A great resource for helping our students gain deeper meaning during our inquiry into how we can be kaitiaki in our local community. The gloves and bags were really helpful in helping us to carry out a successful beach clean up. We had arranged a science session at our local beach, where we tested the water in the stream that runs into the beach. We were then able to do a rubbish collection afterwards on the beach and also on the walk back to school.”
