Really useful plan of activities and background information. We linked this kit successfully with our teacher passion projects we ran this term, where the children chose a school kit that most aligned with their own strengths and passions.

This was an excellent kit for our 5 and 6 year olds. The suggested youtube videos create lots of discussion and inspiration for art and flowcharts. The children cleaned our school grounds on two afternoons which they absolutely loved doing. It really suited our active children. We added a competitive aspect - which class has the heaviest rubbish bag? The year 2 children spent time weighing and classifying the rubbish. The children learnt that all rubbish ends up in the ocean and can end up in the stomachs of animals.

Learners really enjoyed getting out. We cleaned up our school street which has a stream running beside it. They were rewarded for their efforts when a loca resident brought out biscuits. (Not quite the altruistic act I was after, but they were happy.)

I found the sea cleaners resource absolutely fabulous as I have little children and now with their gorgeous safe gloves they continue to pick up rubbish wherever we are. They are so conscious of using plastic and as we are a rubbish free school they really abide by the rules and even try and educate their older peers. They love animals and the posters you provided are so detailed and gorgeous. The kids used these to sketch and for many other art ideas as their love for creatures continues to grow. We are surronded by sea with some parents being fisherman so very appropriate topic.

The kit was great, the gloves gave the students something to chat about and it was easy to link the task to the impact on the ocean. I used the kit as part of my Enviro technology so 5 classes used the gloves, we ended up filling buckets instead of the bags.

Our topic for term 4 was plastics and the environment. We went on trips to our local river, local beach and around the outside of our school collecting rubbish. The students loved the gloves and we we used them quite a few times for our litter collections. We sorted rubbish with a marine biologist for our beach clean, and also in class for the river and school litter collections. The students were highly motivated and engaged with this topic, and many parents were also actively involved.
