I loved using the kit. The class were super engaged. it tied in with our theme for the term and gave them a practical way to implement their learning.

The gloves and poster provided by the sea cleaners kit have been used several times by our Year 5/6 classes. We used the sea cleaner's kit in conjunction with our learning and litter clean-up we undertake for Sustainable Coastlines. The poster included in the Sea Cleaners kit is a useful way to simplify all the data we record about the amount and categories of litter we collect.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Our focus for the term was about Kaitiakitanga so the Sea Cleaners kit fitted in really well
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I did find the kit was quite simplistic - especially for a class who are very interested in the environment and already know a lot. As a school we do lots of beach clean ups already. I was hoping for the kit to take our learning a bit further than it did.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have carried on our environmental theme all year and our kids are passionate about looking after our world.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? In conjunction with the kit, we were able to create visual arts projects by using plastic rubbish to create a 3D underwater diorama. This evoked lots of rich conversations about the habitats and diets of many sea animals and the effect that plastic has on
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We had planned to take our clean up to the footpath outside of our school and measure this collection compared to our school. This would have led to an eventual beach clean up day and investigations into the health of nearby beaches and waterways.

Students enjoyed having the opportunity to take their learning outside of the classroom. Due to lockdown, we were only able to collect rubbish in our school grounds before going into level 4. Because our school is somewhat close to the city beaches of Auckland, we were able to have a rich discussion about the potential journey that this plastic could have made to the sea had we not collected it. Students were overwhelmed by the amount of plastic that we collected from our school, especially since most children bring waste free lunches to school.

This kit was a great hook into being kaitiaki for our environment. Lockdown proved a challenge to get this up and going in early Term 3, so we tackled the kit coming back into Term 3. The children were engaged and shared their views on our school environment. Thank you for the paper bags and gloves- the kids were so happy they got to keep the gloves!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? In maths we were looking at statistics so the sorting and graphing activity fitted perfectly. For science and writing we conducted water breakdown experiments with various types of rubbish found.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? further research into types of materials used in packaging; writing persuasive letters to manufacturers; mapping local areas and waterways

Fantastic resources to boost my teaching in this area, particularly as we have limited access to colour printing etc. They loved using the gloves and requested to use them each playtime.
