“Awesome kit for Term 2. Went along perfectly with our Local History curriculum topic of the Waikato River. Kids engaged in this kit so well as it flowed in so easily with what we’ve started. Materials were easy to use and the online resources support the kit well. We especially loved the opportunity to be able to clean our local sports field to stop our waste going into the nearby lakes.”

“This kit was repurposed to be used in our enviro club as the term limited trips to the beach. The focus was around the ocean and how the rubbish collected in our school could potentially end up in the ocean. The kids loved searching for rubbish in the end . The resource itself was super fun and kids loved receiving their own gloves.”

“We have been learning how to be Kaitiaki in Rooms 19 and 20. This was a great kit for us to put what we have been learning into action. The children all really enjoyed the rubbish collection and were fully engaged and involved. Sorting the rubbish was a lot harder, and counting it proved to be quite tricky for our little year 0/1 children, but we got there in the end. Great learning start and we will continue with more next term. We collected 1 big bag in total, but had 4 bags that we started with - one with each teacher/helper when we went searching for rubbish. We picked up rubbish for 30 minutes on the day - but the children have continued to pick up more since on their own accord. Some parents also said they would take their children to the beach/park over the weekends to do some more rubbish collecting.”

They are taking ore of an interst at present to ensure rubbish is in the bins and not thrown on the ground - don't know how long this will last for however.

How has this kit impacted on your class culture? The children are much more aware about the amount of plastic pollution in the world and they are more motivated to do some thing about it

In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? The children were highly motivated to look after sea creatures by reducing the amount of plastic making its way into the oceans. They reduced the plastic in lunchboxes as a result of this Inquiry.
