How has this kit impacted on your class culture? My students are now more aware of what rubbish can do to the environment and the impacts on our sealife
In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? The children are more aware of the impacts of dumping rubbish close to the sea and have developed a sense of ownership over the rubbish at sea regardless of who it belongs too

“We had lots of fun collecting then sorting the rubbish, really highlighted the amount of packaging that is non-recyclable. Using the gloves and then taking them home encouraged conversations with whanau about waste. Will definitely order this kit again”

How has this kit impacted on your class culture? Students are more aware of their surroundings and students are stopping to think about their impact on the environment.
In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? The students were more willing to care for their environment and clean because they learned about the ways rubbish could affect sea life. It was a great eye opener for some students.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Due to COVID we could only do our school grounds. After our initial clean up the students still continued to find rubbish in their own time and report it. We intend to go around our local neighbourhood, particularly focusing on and in gutters and drains.

In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? It fits in very well with the concepy of service and environmentalism. Learners became very aware of how pollution impacts our environment and steps to take in making our environment cleaner and greener

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? At first we tried cleaning local reserves that lead to the lake but these were extremely clean and there was nothing to pick up so we moved to. Plan B - cleaning our school playground areas and beyond (our school flows onto a lake).

In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? Very positive. We also put up the pictures of the marine life on the wall with the rubbish attached, which was quite confronting for them. Great impact! We also aligned the Sea Cleaners resources with another sea unit, which added to the impact.
