Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Student 1 - I loved the day and it felt like we were doing something good for the beach and animals. Student 2 - Some of the rubbish was really weird and smelly. There was a lot off a boat, and I go fishing so I know now to look after the rubbish we have on our boat.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The posters with the rubbish on it of the animals.
How many bags of rubbish did your class collect? We did it as a whole school so approx 20-23 bags but they were not full.
How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? Our concept for this term was sustainability so it fitted in really nicely to the learning for the term! Classes have had lots of great discussions about the types of rubbish, how it got there, why we should be aware of what plastics we use and how they are disposed of.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? I definitely think it has challenged mindsets and made then more aware of how they contribute to the waste.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? A broken boogie board, a slipper, broken crockery and a paddle off a kayak. Not your average rubbish.
We took our whole school to a local beach and had a clean-up day. We were in our house groups, which meant our senior students supported our junior students while at the beach to look carefully and collect rubbish. When we came back to school, we sorted the rubbish and then compared the results and the types of rubbish found.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? The inside of an oven as someone dropped off the oven on the road, massive tiles and football net. Why would people do that?
We did this as a class in Term 3 and we have used this as our pin point for everything that we have taught. We went to the recycling centre to understand the plastic recycling better. Our ākonga (learners) have really taken this on board and are aware of rubbish at school and thier surroundings and have done their lunches differently and have grasped the concept of "rubbish". Thank you for the lovely posters etc.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? Perfume bottle - kids were also fascinated by the 2 full beer bottles we found!
This was a great way to explore the impact of our school rubbish on the local environment. We went down after the rain to look at rubbish that had washed up down the drain. We also discussed the trends amongst the rubbish - where we thought it had come from, the fact that lots of them were food wrappers, and that there were lots of small pieces of rubbish hidden in the ground.
