What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? Dinosaur toys from one of the nearby classrooms because there's no way that could have gotten in there unless it was intentionally dropped.
These kits were great. We used them along with some litter traps that we had installed in our school to look at what sort of rubbish was getting trapped in our drains and to think about how we could prevent this rubbish from reaching our oceans. We were able to learn about taking care of our environment and do some statistics work around the type of rubbish we found.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? An old nappy - nobody could believe that someone would leave this on a beach, disgusting!
Our recent school trip to the seashore was a remarkable and heartwarming experience that left an indelible mark on the young minds of our students. Organized with a dual purpose of education and environmental responsibility, the trip saw a group of enthusiastic and inquisitive Year 1 and 2s venture out to clean up the seashore. The entire experience was a testament to the transformative power of nature, teamwork, and the impact of hands-on learning. From the moment we arrived at the picturesque seashore, the children were captivated by the breathtaking views of the rolling waves, the soft sand, and the crisp, salty sea breeze. Their eyes sparkled with excitement as they eagerly gathered around to hear about the day's mission – to clean up the beach, safeguarding the environment for future generations. The children, armed with gloves, buckets, and a passion for making a difference, set out on their mission. Their energy was boundless as they scoured the shore, meticulously picking up various pieces of litter and debris. What made this experience truly special was the way the children embraced their task with enthusiasm, turning what could have been perceived as a chore into a game. They shared their finds, from discarded plastic bottles to old jandals, counting the items as if they were treasures unearthed from the deep. During the cleanup, the children's inquisitive minds led them to ask questions about the source of the litter and the consequences of pollution on the marine ecosystem. Teachers and a CHCH City Council educator were on hand to provide valuable insights and information, turning the beach into an open-air classroom. The combination of hands-on learning and their natural surroundings made for a profound educational experience.
