How effective were the components of this kit?
Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them
" I love the gloves as they make me feel like all official, like an ocean cleanup scientist." " This field trip wasn't that fun, I mean we were just picking up and sorting rubbish, but at least I feel like I'm making a difference." "The thought of plastics ending up in a turtles tummy really makes me think about putting rubbish in the bin."
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The posters of sea creatures and creating the artworks using the rubbish we collected really brought home the impact our actions are having on sea life. The gloves are still being used by our kids and made them feel really important. The bags were also great in giving the kids an overall sense that what they were doing was really important. That they were teaming up with a huge organisation that is teally making a difference. The video message addressing the school kids from the Sea Cleaners founder was also very powerful.
How many bags of rubbish did your class collect?
How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability?
Kids have a real awareness now of how all rubbish that is not disposed of correctly, makes its way into drains and then into our waterways. They are continously picking up rubbish in their own time, and are using our school wide recycling systems more effectiively.
