What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? For the tamariki- undies. They never thought they’d see them! Or the foam roller mat
Used with my yr0-2 students. This was a fantastic kit with everything you need to complete a beach cleanup. My students loved the gloves in particular and were so excited to fill up as many bags as they could. Posters were a fantastic post clean up activity. We collected a total of 8 bags from petone beach in just over an hour. We teamed up with our local keep NZ beautiful group who lent us high vis vests and grabbers which helped too.

The Sea Cleaners kit is as great . The gloves and bags provided which were not only recyclable but very heavy duty, made the whole rubbish collection easy. We were able to conduct lots of science and social science experiments at school about the effects of rubbish in our community. This was then followed by an amazing EOTC adventure to the beach to show how we can all make a difference. Using the kit to support our classification of the rubbish helped the students understand where rubbish had come from and the danger to our environment. Finally, the artwork we were able to produce using the kit helped us get the message to others about how important it is to pick up rubbish.

This was a great kit to use with my Year 3 class. The reusable gloves were fantastic, and there were enough for everyone, including parent helpers. It was great having paper rubbish sacks provided, rather than using plastic. The children really enjoyed going through the rubbish afterwards and recording the data on the large sheet provided.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Armed with our gloves and bags, we went to our school grounds first. It was surprising to see how much trash we found—plastic bottles, wrappers, and even some old toys! It felt like a treasure hunt, but instead of treasure, we were finding rubbish and making our school look clean and beautiful. 2. At the end of the day, I felt so proud of what we did. Our school grounds looked amazing, and the water raceway was cleaner and safer for the animals. I realised that even though we're just kids, we can make a big difference in the world.

While primarily designed for coastal clean-up efforts, the kit is versatile enough to be used for cleaning other waterways, such as rivers and lakes. We used our kit to clean up our kura and a close by water race as part of our Kaitiaktitanga curriculum.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? A child's full nappy because the tamariki were so shocked that someone had left that at the beach. They were all quite disgusted and couldn't believe someone would do that which lead to a great discussion around why we see household rubbish in public.
The Sea Cleaners kit was extremely well linked to our big idea for science in Term 2. We were learning about how we could be Kaitiaki to help Papatūānuku. We learnt about different types of pollution before our kit arrived and the tamariki had already taken an interest in ocean pollution which was great. The kit led us to explore water systems and drew our attention to our local waterways. The tamariki picked one of our local beaches to clean. They all became very excited when we began to explore how our beach clean would take place. The resources provided in the kit linked well to our learning and preparation for the clean. Everyone was highly engaged and interested especially when they got their gloves and teamed up to clean the beach. When we explored our rubbish findings afterwards the tamariki were so interested and thoroughly enjoyed categorizing and filling in the giant poster together.
