Student 1 - it has helped us a lot, it reminds me not to leave my rubbish lying around. Makes me think about how many animals in the ocean are being killed. Student 2 - people know not to leave their rubbish lying around so the sea animals don't die from the rubbish lying around like the sea turtles and the jelly fish.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why?
The gloves because the students were not worried about picking up the rubbish. They made them feel important and that they were fillfilling a personal duty.
How many bags of rubbish did your class collect?
One bag - we had 8 classes in different areas of the school. In the one small space that Room 16 tidied we collected one bag.
How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability?
It has made them more aware of how what they do personally can affect the oceans. They are thinking more about their own actions and what effect they have in their environment.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
Personal reminders - it has opened their eyes to think about the world in general, not just themselves.

A squishy ball and heaps of food lying underneath our decks. Did not expect to find so much food wasted and a toy.
