Kids love cleaning up. We don't live close to the sea but very close to a river which leads to the sea. Kids gained an understanding of how rivers travel as well as environmental factors. We use the gloves every week to clean up around our school. The gloves have washed up very well and have kept their shape well too.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them 1) I enjoyed making a river. 2) I liked when we were picking up rubbish with our big buddies. 3) We have learnt to keep our lunch boxes shut so we can keep the rubbish inside. 4) We learnt if there were no sea animals, we would have no plants and then our oceans would die. There would be no more fish to eat for fish and chips.

What was your cleanup location type? School
Which of the following types did your class collect? Food Wrappers
What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? Nothing
This kit was not very easy for us to use as we couldn't get parents to help us get to a location where we could do the work. The gloves also did not seem very hygienic when we used them on-site at school. As any liquids could just go through.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Several students have begun collecting soft plastics from lunchboxes etc. for collection now at local supermarket. What was your cleanup location type? Green Space, School
Which of the following types did your class collect? Plastic Bag, Plastic Bottles, Food Wrappers, Straws
What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? the number of soft plastics from food wrappers in lunchboxes because we estimated there could be as many as 8,400 items of soft plastics in our lunchboxes across whole school
The kids were pretty excited when the kit arrived and even more enthusiastic when we opened it together. They had been looking into recycling on our campus and at home and were curious to see what the major types of rubbish were littered around our school. The gloves made the collection of rubbish safe and hygienic for everyone. They loved the fact that were able to make a difference in our environment by having a clean-up but they were also shocked at the number and types of non-biodegradable rubbish that littered our neighbourhood. This spurred them on to present their findings with some pretty scary numbers, to the rest of the school in the form of posters and persuasive writing.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? The number of straws! Otherwise quite a few bits of wood that were also too big for us to carry
The sea cleaners kit was so helpful for our students who went down to the local beach to pick up rubbish. There were enough gloves for all students and parent helpers to have 2 each, and the paper bags helped reinforce the idea of using less plastic. The students all enjoyed sorting out the rubbish afterwards and using the big poster to help categorise everything we found.
