We are a class of 26 year 6s and loved the sea cleaners kit. We were focussing on plastics in our ocean and the damage it causes. We went for a class trip to the aquarium and then spent our time picking up rubbish using the gloves provided (to keep us clean and safe) and paper bags.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them When we first started looking we thought there would not be much rubbish at all. But to our surprise we found two council orange bags full of rubbish along the beach. PoppyMonty On this graph you can see how much rubbish we found in the 20 minutes we spent picking up rubbish. 23% was soft plastics and this is the most common rubbish we have in our lunch boxes. 15% was hard plastic and this was mainly fizzy bottles which is not good for our teeth or the ecosystem as it ends up in the growing 5 gyres. These are giant garbage patches of rubbish floating in our ocean. 121 bits of soft plastic was found. These were chocolate and lolly wrappers especially Hi Chews and mentos packets. We think we found these because lollies and snacks foods are easy to talk to the each and park. They are light and can drift away easy. Soft plastic never biodegrade but they take 450 years to break down to tiny mico plastics which our fish will mistakes for eggs and eat over the next 450 years. 80 Tin cans were found. This was shocking as they can be easily recycled and given another life. We think these people are lazy. We should always recycle our tin and aluminium cans at the recycling centre. Did you know cans take 200 years to rust, break down and biodegradable in the ocean.

We loved this kit! As we had a beach clean-up event happening at the end of the term, we were keen to unpack what was inside. The gloves and bags were very useful for the trip, and the posters of the animals were a poignant reminder of keeping our ocean free from rubbish. We used the posters alongside a picture book that talked about rubbish in our oceans, and glued recycling and debris we found at the beach to the posters, to display our findings.
