My class loved the kit, it was particularly timely as we were learning about plastic pollution in the ocean, beach cleanups and how to care for sea life.We ended our study with a Junior Team trip to the beach where we did a rubbish scavenger hunt and collection along with other activities. A well thought out kit which my 5 and 6 year olds enjoyed interacting with.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? Socks! Why were they there and how did the owner not know they had lost a sock?
this was very engaging for my class. We broke into groups and each collected rubbish around various areas of the school. We classified the rubbish and loved at the amount of each type of rubbish. Using a school map, we made a key for the type of rubbish, the amount of rubbish and colour coded the areas of the school. We were then able to pass our findings onto the school at an assembly and challenge another class to re-do our collection survey a week later to see if, as a school, we had made improvements. The chart is hanging in the library and our Enviro Team have used this investigation to arrange areas of the school for each class to clean up every week and look for trends of rubbish being left in our school. As we are close to the beach and were looking into marine animals for our trip to Kelly Tarltons, we were also able to look at the consequences of rubbish being left in our school grounds and how it would affect our local environment. Great integration of many curriculum areas. Thank you
