Our students engaged in the clean-up at school after researching the waterways close to us. They were horrified at the amount of rubbish they found and were so proud to have rescued it from reaching the waterways. They absolutely loved being able to use some of the rubbish and their lunch box trash to create art and proudly showed them off to families during parent evening.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them When gluing some of our rubbish onto the turtle poster, students could see how much plastic could fit in such a small space and related it to the stomach of a turtle. They were upset and shocked.

How has this kit impacted your class culture toward whenua ora (land wellness) and sustainability? Students are more conscious of where litter goes that they see on the streets/playground/park. They have an understanding of where it may end up.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Our waterways leading to ocean, what 'rubbish' looks like (not just yoghurt pottles, and chip packets.

What was the most interesting piece of rubbish found and why? It was all of the smaller bits of plastic that have been broken off of something larger. The kids realised that this rubbish was harder to see and how it could be easily flow down creek/stream/river to the ocean.
This kit was great! Posters for rubbish to be glued on was great for students to contextulize where their rubbish ends up. We used this kit alongside our 21 day sea cleaners challenge which worked well as we focused on impact of litter to sea life.
