That if we are aware of the ways outside influences can make us feel unworthy, bad about ourselves, etc then we can actively change the way we allow these influences to impact us and spend more time on self-care, doing the things that make us feel good and build our strengths and confidence.

Which response stood out most? They were surprised that adults talked negatively about their bodies. I think it shocked them that negative self body image can last for years until you're "really old".

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? This kit has started an open conversation about looks, self esteem, self acceptance, loving others and ourselves for who they are. We have a lot of these tamariki in our hub next year and we are excited about building on this even more, and continuing our conversations.

Was there a particular component that struck a chord with your class? The "Charging Station" activity struck a deep chord with my class. Students enjoyed creating their personalized stations and appreciated the metaphor of recharging their emotional batteries. This activity helped them visualize resilience as a dynamic, ongoing process, which many of them referenced in subsequent discussions. It also encouraged students to think critically about the activities, people, and habits that contribute positively to their well-being.

The lasting legacy of the Self Confidence Kit will be the awareness and tools it has given students to manage their personal resilience. They now have a shared vocabulary to discuss emotions, stress, and support systems, which will serve them beyond the classroom. The daily check-in practice is something many students have expressed a desire to continue, even outside of school. Additionally, the emphasis on recognising and respecting individual differences in resilience will likely shape how they approach relationships in the future.
