Was there a particular component that struck a chord with your class?
What was most interesting was the beginning part where the students looked into their circle of influences. This married up with the students learning about their whakapapa/ancestors and knowing more about who they are. We spent a lot of time with this part and it seemed to help them make more connections with themselves and their whanau..
Have you noticed change in your students confidence in the classroom?
How did the kit improve self awareness with your students?
Building on self awareness
How has this the kit influenced the way in which students speak to each other?
There is more empathy and understanding of people's similarities and differences. Most of them are more tolerant of one another and are aware of when someone isn't happy or needs space.
Were you surprised at the role media plays in the wellbeing of your students?
Were you / your students surprised by the responses to your statistical inquiry?
No
Which response stood out most?
We didn't spend time on this however the students did cover the media influence briefly when we did the Positive Puberty programme. It was an eye opener for a lot of them as to the influence media as on them and the importance of knowing who you are and what your values are.
How impactful were the Dove Self Esteem project videos for students?
Have your students continued to independently use the Daily Check In / Rise & Shine wall?
No
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners?
The most important parts from this kit that we spent a lot of time on were: Circle of influences | Daily check in - it was a great way to communicate with me without having to draw attention to themselves. They would leave me notes and this was great. They could recognise their feelings and identify what they needed. Most of the time they didn't need to talk to me but felt better knowing that I knew how they were feeling. We started this kit in term 3 and they got used to checking in first thing in the morning. We also had a 'feelings' board and they were able to move their names throughout the day to indicate how they were feeling. Throughout this term, I noticed that the children were not using the daily check in resource as much nor leaving notes. However, they have continued to use the visual display of identifying their feelings. We tried the Rise & Shine wall but they weren't as hooked. .
