What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The kids found it fun!
What kind of feedback did you receive from students regarding the overall unit, and how did it influence their learning experience? I think they found it boring at first but by the time they actually started creating it and modifying it. They changed their minds and were invested on the 'what happens next?'
I found that the students could actually show their working and they full understood how solar powers works. Using this manipulation devices. They really enjoyed making the solar cars.

What kind of feedback did you receive from students regarding the overall unit, and how did it influence their learning experience? Students enjoyed the challenge and the hands on aspect of the build.
We used the solar cars kit as part of our STEM elective where students complete one off tasks and challenges (Year 7 to 11). The students made the SOLAR cars and then raced them.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Thoroughly enjoyed it. Very educational if taught in context. Students asked to do other projects with similar kits.
What kind of feedback did you receive from students regarding the overall unit, and how did it influence their learning experience? Students showed a complete understanding of the concept of renewable energy and its place in the world and how it can reduce the impact of non-renewable energy, like fossil fuels.
We used the kit in groups of 3 as we had 72 students in our space. Each student was allocated a role, tester, constructor etc. The kits were a hit. Students loved it. We explored the concepts of: Aerodynamics, Solar power, motor size etc, to see which factors would have an impact on the workings or speed of the cars. After building, we tested it, midified and raced the cars. Students had fun doing this. The only draw back was that the cars came undone easily. We had to use hot glue on some.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Students loved the final result. They now have a better understanding of how these things take time in building, redesign and modification
What kind of feedback did you receive from students regarding the overall unit, and how did it influence their learning experience? Same as above
It is a fantastic hands-on learning activity. I found it very helpful, especially for students with conditions like ADHD.

How did students approach the car modification challenge, and what innovative solutions did they come up with? After investing significant time and effort into building their cars, many students found it difficult to make changes or experiment with different designs to improve performance. They were often reluctant to alter something they had worked hard to create, even when discussing how engineers test and refine prototypes. This highlighted the need for additional scaffolding around the engineering design process and the idea that testing, evaluating and improving are valuable parts of creating successful technologies.

The Solar Cars 24 project was a highly engaging and motivating learning experience for our Year 10 Foundation students. With teacher support, students successfully built their own solar-powered cars and showed excellent perseverance when assembling the kits. Many students took great pride in seeing their cars work for the first time, and the race day was a particular highlight that generated excitement, teamwork and a real sense of achievement. Overall, the project was an excellent way to develop practical skills, problem-solving and resilience while making science enjoyable and relevant.
