How did students approach the car modification challenge, and what innovative solutions did they come up with? They were very keen and eager to modify their cars as the first run showed weak points. Some added weights to their cars, others used the graphite on tyres, some sandpapered edges and adjusted the electronics.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The kids loved the practical and hands on element of this unit - the theory supported the practical learning positively.
A highly engaging unit for all abilities. I enjoyed teaching this unit and learning alongside aakonga. Thank you for a well planned and well resourced unit.

How did students approach the car modification challenge, and what innovative solutions did they come up with? Some students tried putting on multiple solar panels. They learnt that if you get the granite on the solar panel that it won't go. Students enjoyed putting the weights in different areas of the car and observing what happens.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Parents thought it was amazing that the students were able to receive their own solar car and so did the students. Many said they were going to continue with their investigations at home and try to build other things.
The students loved doing solar cars. They loved the competitive aspect of it as well. It incorporated some really good skills such as perseverence, fair play, rule making... The students learnt a lot of new skills and really enjoyed the challenge. We also did other powered cars such as the balloon cars and did a rubber band car challenge. I definitely recommend this kit.

We did solar cars as part of a science unit. The kids were very engaged and loved learning about the science behind the solar panels.

The kids loved putting their car together and it tied in well with our inquiry. It certainly made them think pf resilience and perseverence as well!

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? It’s so fun, they have also been telling their parents about it, which doesn’t always happen with year 7 kids. Some have also been going home and making cars too.
My class have absolutely loved this unit. They really enjoyed learning about solar power and the n having the experience of building the cars and racing them.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? The students loved the hands-on building of the cars, and discussing and modifying the cars.
This kit was very engaging for our students. There was lots of problem-solving that happened to get the solar cars running. Some went backwards, to begin with, but with some problem-solving and teamwork, they managed to fix the problem. Seeing how students supported one another to complete the solar car was very rewarding. The testing of the cars to compare weight and speed was very successful. It encouraged students to compare and modify their cars and then compare the data. A great activity for all students in our senior hubs.
