What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? How much they loved this unit!
I did this with year3&4 class, the independent inquiry into diagnosing the 4 animals was pretty hard for them to understand and go through in their teams, they needed teacher help analysing the data and understanding the vocab. But the children were so engaged and loved "playing vets" with all the equipment etc. Bringing in soft toys from home to diagnose and treat! Definitely doing this again!

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? For those with the staying power (at this end of the year) and literacy skills, it helped them to learn to go step by step and apply their 'detective skills'.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Parents thought it was an interesting focus for School Pet Day week, they were also intrigued as to how it would work. Most of the class enjoyed the change in activities and working with the resources. I got a stethoscope, thermometer and blood pressure monitor so they could practice on themselves and each other before Pet day. They got into that too. Will ask on Monday and get some photos.
This kit has so many ways you can come at it: Writing, Reading, Technology, Science and Maths and more. It has been a bit of an ask for many in the class as they are year 3-4 and a group find literacy a challenge. It linked well from last term's living world work to this term's technology theme. The students found the resources intriguing. They found the activities engaging if I gave them enough support.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? They enjoyed the unit.
We decided to take on this kit as a way to introduce our Careers unit. It was a perfect way to begin. We were fortunate to get Jo, from School Kit, come in before we started. It was great fun acting out the role of the vet with the class and going through the process of eliminating symptons with a collaborative class of 120 students. We did not teach the first and last lesson as it did not relate to our Careers unit, but we did teach the rest. We loved it, but it took a lot of time to plan as resources seemed to be scattered about - if there was one place, in order, to look with links, that would have been less work. After they found out what each had and the treatment, it would have been good to have something extra for them to do such as a scavenger hunt where they have to find out things like salary, years of study, subjects to take at seconday school, hours of work, the different types etc. Then finally, it would have been good to have a vet talking at the end about their job. Perhaps a 20 minutes clip on youTube.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? My students really enjoyed stepping into the vets shoes, they loved the red glasses and discovering the hidden messages. They didn't really like the fact that there were only a few activities/videos on the ipads. They found it a little big tricky finding the diagnosis. They enjoyed watching the videos and were inspired to try something like that.
My kids really enjoyed the storyline coding as it was a challenge and they could all get involved. When we got to 'being vets', it also faced as a challenge but it was a great way to end the term for reading. It was something differe,t and the feedback from my students was positive.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? As I said, the kids were gutted when it ended. I can only imagine some of the dinner table conversations as one boy spayed his buddies cat with a scalpel made of cardboard!
My Year 5 and 6 class were absolutely hooked from the beginning. They brought in soft toys to diagnose and operate on. Aside from teaching maths and PE, we were engaged in this learning all day. My CRT release teacher could not believe how hard they worked at "University" studying to become vets. They "sat exams" in their specialties and showed their younger buddy classmates their skills during whānaukataka time. My class was devastated when it ended and wanted more mysteries to solve!

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? They loved the learning and roleplaying being a vet and a "patient" who was interviewed for the podcast. I sent copies to parents and they were stoked.
Initially, it took me a bit to get my head around this kit, but once I did, it was game on! We had 3 staff members who had enrolled for the kit but were starting at different times so we shared the kit resources so the groups working on "patients" could be smaller. I was the first teacher to start and created the coding grids on old real estate signs which worked well and could be passed on. I also went to the local op shop and got loads of animal toys that the students would "treat" one was a horse which was epic. Our principal was friends with the local vet so we got lots of props to create a vet clinic. These critters and props were passed on to the next class. The kids LOVED that it was linked to Fairytales. They enjoyed diagnosing and treating their characters. The school even purchased microphones so the students could create podcasts. My class did it from the point of view of the character and in an interview style. Even the least engaged writer and speaker was engaged!

How did this resource help students understand process of elimination using data analysis? The kit really broke the process down for them. The 'If... then...' statement activity to start with and coding them in Scratch provided them with a good understanding of the basics. Working on the case studies afterwards with all the fantastic made up data (x ray, lab tests, photo, etc) had them apply what they had learned making the whole process real and tangible.

What feedback have you received from students or parents about the learning in this kit? Very positive feedback from both parents and students. Several students told me it was their favourite inquiry of the year :)
This has been a fantastic kit - and we are not finished with it! My whole class has been so engaged even if to start with some students weren't too sure, thinking they'd have to wan tot be vets to enjoy it. The activities are varied, the pretend clinic worked wonders, a very easy topic to include reading and writing, presentations and more.
