While we were voting for our SVA project idea... our school PFA put a call out for 80 more volunteers to make the Halloween disco go ahead. We ended up answering this call and had a great lead up working through the learning. We applied for roles and then worked with a small team to make this day a success. One the day it was full on and we spent it making, decorating, organising and helping make the Halloween Disco a huge success!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Learners were able to volunteer to help out at our school gala and help raise money for the school to purchase new sports uniforms. We also wrote letters to a local rest home to give out to elderly who make shave needed an extra boost of love and care. Le

What an awesome kit! It provided the opportunity for my learners to take responsibility in decision making and gave learners the opportunity to shine in other areas. New leadership qualities were developed and grown with my Year 5 learners. It gave them a sense of pride as through volunteering they were able to contribute positively to our school environment. Learners designed and implemented a stall at our school gala which helped towards buying new sports uniforms for all learners across our school. They worked through each stage of planning, to gathering, to implementing with the guidance of school kit. Thank you so much for putting this thoughtful and inspiring kit together!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? The target was keeping a local wetland area litter free. The wetland is a small area close to the school but not many families know about it. It was great that a student suggested this area as we not only helped to look after it, but introduced the area t

An awesome kit that got the students thinking outside of the box. Students were able to use their strengths as different group members although our 5 year olds did need a bit of guidance on this instead of everyone wanting the lead role!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We are currently still undertaking our projects. The students are planning on creating 'kindness' rocks for our community to share kindness. They are also looking into how we can reduce our rubbish waste here at school and getting others school on board.

This year I used the kit a little bit different and used it with my enviroschools to get them thinking of ways to help our school and community. They absolutely enjoyed. This kit gave students agency and taught them about leaderships roles and how to work as a team.

I love the premise behind this kit, however when we signed up this time I thought it was more for creating opportunity for students to take on a range of projects. While we did do this, I found we did not use much of the kit resources as not all the roles and templates were useful for what we were doing.

We had always planned to explore the how and why of Buddy Benches. The SVA kit provided meaningful and tangible ways . Every student felt they were of equal value and contributed fully because of the badges and job descriptions. As always I think ok now let's transfer this set up to other areas of learning.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We hope that we bring joy to lonely people at Christmas in the local senior citizen's village. We also hope to provide essential support to people in need around Christmas time.

The SVA kit was really motivating and all students got on board with the process and lessons. With lockdowns and the craziness of the year we needed to adapt the lessons and outcome. We ended up making Christmas cards for elderly people in our local area and collecting goods for the Auckland City mission Christmas drive too.
