What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We added to a local green space that we had previously been down to visit when learning about native birds. I think this has inspired many children to encourage their families to use this space more as some didn't previously know it existed before this ye

This was a fantastic lead back into school after lock down. The children were really passionate about giving back to their community and chose a project that involved planting native trees in a local community garden space. My class were very driven to get their project done and wanted to share their knowledge with our new entrant class so buddied up with them. They showed great responsibility and pride in their work and loved learning about and applying for the different roles to make our day happen. What a wonderful kit that inspired our children to give back to others, take responsibility and pride in their work and be a part of a project in their community that one day their own children will enjoy. This kit has inspired other projects for next term as well!

I have really appreciated this kit. I am actually still using it with my group of students as we have several initiatives we have not yet managed to see to fruition. The students I have worked with have been a group of volunteer Vinnies which is a group we develop within our Catholic school environment. They are learning about not always asking for money to help make a difference but how to be creative in response to a need.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We are a small community and as residents and the next generation we need to teach and show by example what it takes to look after a community as a whole.

Due to Covid we have decided to complete 2 of the kits together in the one project. Now that we are at Level 1 we are able to do some decent and meaningful teaching with the kits provided, it makes it more justified and worthwhile when you have the whole class attending school. Numbers were low in class which is the reason we are delayed.

My class are aYear 2/3 team so varying levels of maturity. They loved the concept but required alot of unpacking of ideas and what each position meant and what they had to do. The wrist bands were loved and the children enjoyed wearing them and the badges and they felt important. It was highly successful in my class being a collaborative learning activity, that the children embraced and learnt alot.

This kit was great for guiding us through the volunteering process. We used its ideas and structure to set up 3 different volunteering projects that the students were interested in. It was tricky doing it this way as each project had time out of school with practical sessions so I had to rely on community members and parents as I could not be in more than 1 place. This was also great as it got more people involved and parents got to share some pretty cool experiences with their child. Covid did have an impact on the group fundraising which was a shame but they adapted and managed to raise money to donate. The kit was a good guide. We also did some research into other volunteers and what some members of our community do to help others. It does make the students think about how the world works and their place in it.

We enjoyed using this kit to connect with elderly in our community. The class is going to continue using this kit to drive our project that will hopefully lead to face to face connection with our elderly friends that we have been communicating with letters.
