Unfortunately due to the two lock downs our class never got the chance to do this kit. However, the kit itself had lots of great resources in it. I do think it would have been quite hard for my year 2 class to do alone as it had lots of reading to do but it would be a great project to do as a buddy class.

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
I like the roles students could explore and act out as being part of a team/committee but at yr3/4 this was tricky for us do and needed lots of input/direction. We did however find it easy to come up with lots of creative ideas and with lots of support again we could narrow down our thinking to something realistic that we could do.

What type of project did your class undertake? Greenspace Project
I have only touched the surface of the kit so far and will be incorporating it into my programme again in 2021. The layout, roles allocated and guidelines are great. It also enables students to be self driven and have a greater awareness for their school and wider community and the contibutions they can make without expecting anything in return other than a sense of satisfaction and contribution. A great kit. Thanks

The children loved planting their own plant. They were so keen to come to school and monitor their plant’s growth! They loved watering the plants too. The activities were lots of fun too. We have transplanted the plants into bigger pots and after the holidays we will put them into the school vegetable garden.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Unfortunately we have had to hold off on our SVA day due to Covid restrictions in Tokoroa earlier in the term. Our project is to have a community day with the senior citizens playing games with them, waiata and performance and creating gift and food packs

The SVA kit has been an exceptional resource to encourage and motivate our students to become kaitiaki for our local community. The kit's resources provided the stepping stones to forming their groups, selecting an appropriate role to step in to and actioning a plan for a specific community need. This has inspired many to step outside their comfort zone and step up to 'give back' to our community (no matter how big or small). I highly recommend this kit to all and will endeavor to continue to instill the values that encompass being a kaitiaki for our communities. Thank you School Kit!

What type of project did your class undertake? Fundraising, Greenspace Project
This kit provided my year 7-8 students with very challenging and rewarding projects. Students led themselves through the different processes from planning and organising, including letters to request sponsorship, calculating figures, writing a plan of what was needed before, during and afterwards, through to running projects successfully on the day, problem solving, reflecting, and lastly thanking those who supported us and feeding back to our community. It has definitely provided them with skills for future projects, either at our school or in the future.
