What was the community impact of your volunteering project? I think it had to do more with the age of my class (Year 0-2) that some of the community thought how cute, but really didn't want our help with any of their store or home chores. Some asked for the children to perform a song or dance instead, which the ch

To no fault of any person, other than COVID - our plans to help out in the community changed several times wherein the end it became a little frustrating and the focus of helping others became more of helping ourselves. The students were very eager and keen and came up with lots of ideas of how we could help in the community from cleaning outside the shopping mall area, stacking store shelves to mowing and gardening people's properties. We ended up cleaning up around our own school garden and playing field and looking at the amount of rubbish we found around our school.

I loved the SVA kit. We've done it several years in a row now. The kids loved coming up with meaningful ideas to help in the community. They get a lot out of it!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We discussed the pressure this time of year has on families financially and looked at ways we could help. We also found out that the Dunedin food bank was extremely low and that we could commit to fixing that problem. We reached out to our friends from ot

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
This was a cool kit that got the kids thinking about others and the positive impact they can have on the people around them. The students really had to work on their key Comps during this time and It was really great to see students working together within their groups. The impact our project had on our local food bank was really cool and hopefully set them up to continue this community volunteer spirit for life.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We have a few families that have difficulty with providing stationery for their children and hopefully a number of children will be able to start their year off not having to wait or have the incorrect stationery. A bonus is that the office staff won't ha

Our class had originally looked at having a 'garage sale' of pre-loved toys but with COVID-19 restrictions we adapted the fundraising section of our project to fill a bag of rubbish from around the school for $5 (kindly funded by PTA/classroom budget). We raised $60 and decided to use this money to pay for stationery for a few families that couldn't afford it at our school for next year., and we donated the stationery to our Principal on behalf of the families. The children took a little bit of time to understand the different roles within the groups and having to 'take turns' but they were very keen to work together knowing what they were aiming for.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? This encouraged the school and other classes to look at what we do with our rubbish. The children enjoyed problem solving and learnt to listen to each other's ideas. Now that we have started this, we are more likely to plan a volunteering venture outside

The SVA Kit was great and fitted in with our value of working together - he waka eke noa. The children got into groups to figure out ways to better keep our school clean and be better with our rubbish. Some chose to add gardens, some to promote recycling, others to compost our fruit rubbish. This was a good process.
