This is the 4th time I have used this kit and I have found it better each time. It was nice to have a new kit this time as I have been reusing it. The students quickly get involved and come up with great ideas. Our one this time has been making a skipping area and teaching others in the school to skip. This has been very successful. Thank you.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? A very well stocked Kai Shed in the lead up to Christmas. A grateful kai shed organiser. Very satisfied students who would be keen to take on such projects again.

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
The students really loved being a part of the SVA. It was great to see them interacting with the different classes in our hub who were also involved in SVA. They were able to come up with different ways that we could do good in our community and selected doing a food collection to support the town’s local Kai Shed. Timing this kit for Term 4 worked well, as it was a nice way to give back to others less fortunate than ourselves in the lead up to the Christmas Holidays which can be a very tough time for many in our area. We were able to utilise boxes that had been donated to us at the start of the year - this had a nice ‘pay it forward’ feel to their use. The children enjoyed working collaboratively to decorate the boxes, and enjoyed sorting and delivering the food. The badges and bands were a nice way to visually show their unity in the project.

A fantastic kit which was mostly easy to use and engaging for students. The only bit we found a little tricky to navigate were all the Pinterest links to launch the project; it would be simpler if one video or text was promoted as the main resource to use to familiarise students with the Student Volunteer Army. We used one of the Ready to Read texts that we were familiar with that is a true story based on the work in Christchurch of the SVA and this was a great way to engage students. The children loved the badges and the bracelets and the posters and visual material was very good.
