Room 19 loved completely the SVA kit. Such a great kit to end the year. Our class goal was to bring joy to the local residents at Lara Lodge retirement home. We read stories, sang carols and provided morning tea for the resin and staff.

What was the impact of your volunteering project on the targeted community? Helping towards the church being able to get a new roof.
The Ava kit was a good way for our class to develop ideas for a school fundraising project. By exploring ideas through the lense of the sva, students were hooked into the idea of service.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Weekly cleaning of the school grounds was our project. It led to a cleaner school environment which enhances the overall learning experience. It improves the overall appearance and creates a more positive and inviting atmosphere. It increased Student Responsibility and Ownership. Students who participated in cleaning activities develop a sense of ownership and responsibility for their school. Cleaning activities helped students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and responsibility. Students learn about the importance of cleanliness and its impact on the environment. A clean and well-maintained school can boost morale among students and staff. Students can take pride in their school and feel a sense of accomplishment from contributing to its upkeep. A clean and well-maintained school can enhance the school's reputation within the community. Student participation can help reduce the workload of custodial staff, allowing them to focus on more complex cleaning tasks. Volunteer labor can help reduce the school's overall cleaning costs.

What was the impact of your volunteering project on the targeted community? Improved School Image: A clean and well-maintained school reflects positively on the wider community. It shows that the school takes pride in its appearance and that the students and staff value their learning environment. This can enhance the school's reputation within the neighborhood. Reduced Environmental Impact: Proper waste disposal and recycling efforts contributed to a cleaner and healthier environment for the entire community. Developing a Sense of Civic Responsibility: By involving students in school cleaning activities, we instilled in them a sense of civic responsibility and a commitment to environmental stewardship. These values can then be carried into their homes and the wider community.
What type of project did your class undertake? Greenspace Project
The Vounteer kit 22 did not work so well for my class because I teach in French. It required too much translation and remaking of the resources on my side. I did not use it. We did have a project of cleaning the school ground as part of our Inquiry on Waste. I also found that there I ran short of time to include this projects into the planning as I already had many other projects going. Next time, I will use the SVA kit as the main project in my planning to save time on planning. That will also free up some time for me to translate the kit and make the resources in French. Some of the House of Science kits have been translated in French through a project with the French Embassy. If the School Kits could be translated in French that would be helpful. There are a few French units across New Zeland which would benefit.

What type of project did your class undertake? Project for Those in Need
We had so many great initiatives but ultimately did a drive to gather supplies for new mums and babies. Many of our students have experienced a siblings arriving early and the pressure it puts on the family. They were connected to helping with items they know are helpful. The kit was vital to planning and organisation. Students loved the roles. Parents were really supportive.

What type of project did your class undertake? Water Based Project
We started this and didn't get it finished unfortunately as I have been out of teaching full time since March due to a consussion. We had a plan in place and all the jobs were assigned but we were not able to follow through with doing it. We had planned to do a river clean up and make up kits for people without homes.

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
My class used the SVA kit this year and absoulty loved it. We brainstormed ideas on what our community needed and what we could do to help. We decided our community had a lack of a place for people to donate extra produce to. We created a community donation shelf for everyone which is held at the school.
