The students have all taken on different responsibilities. They have completed their own Risk Assessment Forms, Board of Trustee requests, made phones calls and sent emails. They have negotiated times and activities independently and shown great resourcefulness. They love their badges and have even requested to be allowed to wear their wristbands formally and have exception cards until the end of the year to be able to wear them.

This term our science focus was on landforms and how erosion has played a part in our community. I linked the SVA kit with our topic by getting learners to look where erosion took place in and around our school and working towards safeguarding the area or restoring if necessary to prevent hazards to our fellow learners and community.

What type of project did your class undertake? Greenspace Project
adapted it a bit as to fit into an environment project that we had lined up with the council, so not all the jobs were used however the children were still able to have some ownership of the project which is now set up into the new year wth the idea of this being a sustainable project.

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
This has been a wonderful activity for the older students at school. To begin with we perused the contents, looking carefully at ideas we could try and which were not suitable for us. Together we decided to bake for the community and got in touch with the local GBB team. They were keen as mustard to welcome us on board, and we even managed to get one of them to come in each week and lead the baking. The children are still thoroughly enjoying this, they like to take control of the recipes and at the end of the term we will be making recipe books for each SVA.

What type of project did your class undertake? Fundraising
With the winter weather in T3 our class decided to run a soup for the soul stall each Friday to raise money for the children’s hospitals. They had to create healthy soup options, seek donations and then all contribute to the cooking and selling.

We were excited about the School Kit but unfortunately, it didn't really fit in with what we needed. Our children are Junior age and while parts of the kit worked, a lot of the content was too old. We used some parts of it and it was really good to hear what other schools were doing with their kit. We did give parts of the kit to the older students at our school who were able to get much more use out of these resources.
