Some of the children were quiet passionate about what they were doing and I am sure they will continue to look for opportunities to take action in our

The kit helped us focus on the roles needed to get a big project off the ground. It worked in well with our technology focus and the students enjoyed the badges and bands as an extra. Thank you for providing all the different elements of this kit to assist us in our community project.

We really enjoyed learning about the SVA and the impact they had in CHCH after the earthquake. To add in a cultural lens to this project, we also looked at a few other examples of people impacting their community in a positive way (some Māori role-models). We then brainstormed ideas of what we felt were things our community might need - ākonga asked questions, did observations etc. to inform their thinking. We had a go with the roles but this proved to be a little more complex than we needed - and we wanted the main focus to be on our community impact - so we ended up not using the roles as suggested in the kit (we were a Year 3 and 4 group so perhaps would have worked better for older ākonga). We then designed our community project in 3 teams - based on our ākonga interests: Beautify our school - art-based mahi 2. Connect with our community - rest home visit, performance and morning tea 3. Te Taiao - planting session at school plus rubbish collection and analysis We had a community project day where our 3 groups went out and did their mahi - and we have just had a celebration and sharing back of what we did.
