What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? This term we have been inspired to integrate science into all different curriculum areas. We have seen the positive impact of hands on learning and how it can roll into all different areas.

How did this kit promote student engagement and enjoyment around taste literacy/fair testing/reducing waste? It encouraged predictions and reflections. The loved the hands on aspect of it - every child could get involved.

How has this kit help develop the resilience of your learners? I'd say 3/4 of my class have developed 'resilience' towards trying new foods and the BiteLab school lunches. Even if it was an extra couple of bites or closing their eyes when trying foods they previously would not have a go at eating it all made a differ

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? As it was the Olympics this year, we took the learning further by looking at an athlete's diet and their healthy food choices. We created food charts: "eat most", "eat some", "eat less"and 'designed' a meal plan for an athlete.

How did this kit promote student engagement and enjoyment around taste literacy/fair testing/reducing waste? Awesome engagement. The kids especially loved the smelly stickers and the cinnamon tasting experience. It was eye opening for them to the see the amount of waste we had a class and as a school.

How has the taste literacy of your students developed throughout this kit? Majority of my kids developed new and exciting language to use. It was a work on as a class to use better descriptive language which this kit pushed us towards doing.

“Really enjoyed this taste kit. The hands on experiences made it enjoyable and entertaining for the kids. Because of COVID, we were unable to complete all the activities however, the ones we did get to complete the kids loved and were keen to do again (especially the activities that tapped into their smell and taste senses).”

At first I was lucky if I got a handful to try outside their comfort zone but with positive encouragement from their peers by the end of it all of my students had grown in their understanding of taste and how it affects how they gauge the world.
