What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? Extension of description around taste and smell. In term 4, writing to describe is a key area of learning. So will use ideas to build on vocabulary and experiences, especially for those who have missed a few sessions.
How did this kit promote student engagement and enjoyment around taste literacy/fair testing/reducing waste? Taste and smell literacy was very useful as well as having a focus on fair testing to a specific level. We have informally discussed the lunches as part of this prior to lockdown which unfortunately disrupted the flow of learning.

How has the taste literacy of your students developed throughout this kit? It has helped raised the students' awareness that there are a lot more vocabulary choices that can be used to paint a clearer picture of what one is thinking. It was a really fun exercise to help do this.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We are going on camp this term and the lessons we have taken from the Taste Experiment kit; i.e. to try new things and to be tolerant of others who have different tastes. We will take these lessons with us when we go to camp. Thank you Schoolkit.
How did this kit promote student engagement and enjoyment around taste literacy/fair testing/reducing waste? We realised that we produce a lot of waste in our class because we like individually wrapped snacks. I have tried to be more of a role model by using beeswax wraps for my own snacks. We have also recycled the plastic containers from our lunches and have r

How has the taste literacy of your students developed throughout this kit? Most of my students are more open to giving new flavours a try instead of just refusing them outright. They have also become more tolerant of their classmates' having different opinions than them about the school lunches.
The kit was full of interesting ideas. My students enjoyed the sniff cards and there was furious debate about which scent was the best. Although almost all of my class disliked the 'pungent' card, one student loved it and would not be swayed by his classmates to change his mind. Another test which was a hit was the Stroop test. My class ended up having competitions in their own time to see who could read the colours the fastest.

How has the taste literacy of your students developed throughout this kit? Yes it has, opened up children’s mind and having a nibble to taste not by looking at what they see.
The children really love the smell kit. There was a lot of teaching about the smells. Over time I moved the children away from smells that they could think of and specifically directed where they could have smelt it before e.g. the kitchen, fridge. The resources were great as it allowed us teacher the freedom to use them to best fit our learners. Sorry no photos were taken as displayed was removed before I got back from sick leave.
