“Hi School Kit, There was so much Maths in this activity around Track The Tanker! Kids got right into estimation of distance using the string and the map and found some strategies along the way for working out the distance of the last two farms after they had done the first two. Ordering and rounding decimals was included. We were also able to talk about percentages and the fact that the milk silo at the dairy factory is 4.74% and how much would be left and why it would be left and discuss what the number is rounded up. I totally recommend this kit. The students googled to work out the distance to the local supermarket place milk is sold and the distance to the students houses. The Olympics were a great deal of fun and everything was included in the kit to make it happen. I would definitely do it again with my students. Thank you for creating such a wonderful learning kit. “This has been a fun and engaging School Kit that has helped this urban classroom learn about the dairy industry and the links with measurement. We enjoyed watching the dairy videos and learning about cows and how milk is produced. The class also reviewed the different types of milking sheds and even the robotic milking machine. “My class has really enjoyed participating in the Track the Tanker Kit. Very few of them knew much about dairy farming so they have learned a lot about this important industry. The kit provided excellent opportunities for learning new mathematical concepts in a meaningful context and the kids enjoyed the practical applications involved. A few of the tasks on the maths sheet were challenging for some students but provided great learning and discussion. We have planned our Cow Olympics and are looking forward to holding it this week.”
