A fun activity for a group, lots of experimenting and students enjoyed it. Going any further was hindered by lockdown in Auckland unfortunately. Well done team for another great kit.

This kit was great, it was very practical and the thinking and re-thinking that was required was excellent. The children loved making their cakes and told me it tasted delicious even though it didn't really look very appetising. I would have liked to spend more time on testing different variables, but I hadn't allowed enough time. It also fitted in well with the veges we had grown in our school vege garden. The kit involved excellent links to maths, science and literacy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Further work with chemical reactions, now they have a basic understanding of the concept. More observations - this kit taught the students that they need to look for certain things eg. bubbles because it meant... Having a control, trialling and then mak

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? It was great to look at chemical reactions before and also learn about the Malliard Reaction so they were able to understand some of the changes that the cake had made when baked. By substituting 80g of the cake with veggies was a good challenge and a lot

I absolutely love this kit! The whole idea of the 60g x 4 was a bit to get our heads around...can you really make a cake?! It was a terrific way to introduce chemistry to the students. The observations to find the bubbles in the cake encouraged the children to stop, look and think about the chemical reaction that had taken place. I will definitely do this again!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We were hoping to incorporate other vegetables and see what kids could create on their own with randomized ingredients.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? They learnt lots about the chemical/physical changes. Also able to apply proportional thinking to the cake making. Gave a real life context to the ratio learning we had been doing.

I found the material to be very engaging. A slide show was made from the material for our online students to do the exercises at home. Only one person completed the exercise so I repeated the work when we returned to school as a class. The children really enjoyed choosing and trying the alternative ingredients. Most enjoyed their creations and were inspired to try other alternatives. The science that lent itself to the unit of work was excellent and informative. Also the mathematics that could be used in a practical way. All and all an excellent resource.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some students are willing to use vegetables in cakes now, I even had a student make a zucchini cake at home and bring a slice in for me. When our kit arrives we sit in a circle and guess what could be inside - this is a great way to get everyone excited about the kit. Overall a really engaging kit. It allow many students to extend their comfort zone with foods as many had not tried chickpea or beetroot before let alone in a cupcake.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? If we weren't still operating under level 2 conditions, we were planning on holding a healthy bake sale to demonstrate our creations. We'd love to be able to do this next year! Perhaps see if we can raise money for the charities our school supports.
