The Unit was interactive, challenging and great to use on line. I am looking forward to also using it in the class now that we have returned, as many children didn't have scales at home and couldn't do it successfully.

The kit was good and got them thinking about veggies being more than just food they didn't want to eat on their plate. The only problem we had was because of covid the time with that and everything else we didn't really do it justice.

They students have tried baking with ingredients that they have never thought of. A lot of wondering was done by the students in terms of how it will taste like. Some had a good experience and had enjoyed the experiment.

This was an easy kit to use and brought a lot of laughter to the classroom. I used it as a reading group task where they made different cakes each and shared them with the class. The class had to guess the ingredients. It allowed for lots of discussion around substituting ingredients. It went well with out healthy eating unit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students learnt many things through this kit - they learnt to try new things, to evaluate the success or not and to accept that things don't always work as we expect. They could see the importance of those Maths skills, measurement, proportions etc.

This kit was highly engaging for senior students (Year 7&8). Let's face it, most kids love doing stuff in Science. Through making the cake, students questioned and made discoveries, they negotiated and learnt skills of working together. It does require some organisation but was well worth the effort. Students surprised themselves and me.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are now finishing the term with a Kitchen Science unit. The students have an allocated day where they pretend they are a teacher sharing the expt idea- get the students to make an hypothesis and then demonstrate the expt.

Making Veggie cakes Chemical reactions Ingredients: Soya sauce Orange juice Apple juice Honey Lime juice Vinegar We added baking soda to each of the ingredients. We found the soya sauce and orange juice, changed colour and fizzed a little bit. The baking soda floated on top of the runny honey. Lime juice and vinegar bubbled lots. The apple juice bubbled a tiny bit. The vinegar had the biggest reaction, the honey had no reaction, it floated on the top. Recipe Review Beetroot cake - 14/20, 15/20, 17/20, 18/20, 20/20, What went right? It was really good because it was cooked perfectly. It was light and fluffy. Liked beetroot. Nice colour. Apple cake - 11/20, 10/20, 13/20, 14/20, 19/20, 20/20 What went right? Tasted good. Reminded Ryan of Apple crumble. It was nice and soft, fluffy with a bit of juice at the bottom. Nice, soft and moist. What went wrong? Didn’t like the taste, too sweet. Bit soggy on the bottom. Chickpea cake - 13/20, 15/20,20/20 What went right? NIcely cooked. Didn’t crumble. Emma - said taste was ok but not perfect. Ashton and C.J. liked the taste. Khole did not like the taste. Corn cake/muffin - 12/20, 16/20, 15/20, 19/20, 20/20 What went right? Tasted really really good. (Bel) Tasted delicious (Kyan) What went wrong? Mrs Sheridan burnt the bottom of them because they cooked faster than the others. In conclusion - The students liked the size of the cakes - not too big. We learnt that veges aren’t disgusting in a cake. We learnt to make cakes using vegetables as a substitute for eggs and less sugar. We also learnt that next time we would try use baking soda to make the cakes rise.

This was an excellent and engaging way to introduce the process of imagining and refining a basic concept. The children were also introduced to types of food they hadn't previously encountered.
