The class enjoyed this unit, I didn't focus on the science part. The focus was taste testing and adding more fruit/veg to our foods, how we do this and the experimenting. There were some good success and the students tried a number of different combinations and tried so many different fruits and veggies. I added nutrition to the unit and the healthy plate model.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? The need for exact measurements was an important aspect that they learned very quickly. This was a great project that really got the kids involved and motivated. They enjoyed researching different types of vegetable combinations to try. The experiments on the bubbles created by carbon dioxide and how that made mixtures rose engaged and motivated many to research more science experiments during lockdown learning that they tried with their families at home.

My students loved unlocking the scientific secrets of cake, and delighted at the idea of pulling the wool over toddlers' eyes by sneaking some veggies into cupcakes. The most surprising revelation? Peas taste better than apple when hidden in a cake (according to some palates).

This was well received by our students, which led on to further work based around food items, how they are packaged and why to keep them as fresh as possible. We also looked at nutritional information that packaging provides us with and how this is helpful to us. In the future we are going to be designing packaging as part of technology, so lots of links to other curriculum areas which is always good.

This was a great kit to get the kids involved. They enjoyed being able to experiment with the different ingredients and seeing how this played out. There is so much to explore in this kit that it could have successfully been used all Term. However we aimed to use it in Term 3 and had the time cut down dramatically due to lockdown. However I will endeavour to finish the kit in the start of Term 4 where possible so the students have a satisfying conclusion to the kit.
