What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think it has inspired further investigation into ingredient function as well as looking at the nutritional components of ingredients. Also when I create future units I will look at how I can continue to integrate both science and maths.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? The students were pretty amazed at the 'science of baking'. Understanding how a chemical process works as well as the certain function of each ingredients. Measurements, careful use of the scales and proportions within the cake formula meant that maths wa

I taught this kit to my Year 8 Food Technology students in Term 3. They were engaged and enthusiastic. A lot of learning had to take place after we had baked our trial cakes and I maybe underestimated the time we would need.

I haven't been able to complete this kit yet due to covid restrictions at my school. However, before the lockdown we made the basic cupcake recipe in groups with lots of success. I will hopefully finish the kit next term.

A great hands on kit for my year 6&7 Design Technology class. Fantastic resources that really got the ākonga thinking not only creatively but like food scientists. Easy to follow instructions and very nicely designed hand outs. This kit gave the students permission to experiment and play, taking into account sensory elements of making food products. The end result? A few interesting combinations and surprisingly some tasty combinations. Would get this kit again for sure.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? We had learnt about chemical change previously in the year so my students were able to bring a lot of prior knowledge to the lessons. We had a lot of great discussions.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? The measurement and recording aspects of the kit were very important - as the students found out, in order to come out with the best results. A great kit and it was very exciting, as a Food Technology teacher to be able to be involved with a School Kit project. The veggies21 kit tied in so well with both the Technology aspects of the curriculum, as well as the Food and Nutrition curriculum big ideas. The students loved the experimentation involved and were truly surprised at how well some of their finished products turned out.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Kids love baking! I mainly teach maths (y3/4) so while I needed to adapt the science a little, the maths measuring and ratio aspect was bang on.

This kit was so well set up and easy to administer. Unfortunately we moved to Distance Learning towards the end of the term when I had planned to use the kit, so I assigned it as an option for our online learning programme. It was very easy to simplify the process to parents, with the added bonus of the whole family considering how to make the along more healthy! We still have the physical kit at school, ready to try again in Term 4.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We already do cooking every week, this kit was so great to talk about the different substitutes that can be used. They got real excited when we began the topic. Just a shame we couldn’t follow it on and continue. But next term we aim to!
