What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To do more baking with my students but to also talk about and learn more about the nutritional value of foods and how each food can weigh a significantly different amount to another and the reasons behind that.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? The students learnt how to weigh food that they wouldn't normally as well as think about different textures that work well together to create a cup cake. Eg, too much sugar or flour doesn't work well.

The cup cakes were tasty and the students enjoyed creating their own recipes- some worked well and others not so much. Mostly, the students could work out why certain recipes didn't work and how they could improve them for next time. Weighing the food was definitely interesting when we compare how much sugar is in 20grams compare to how much banana is in 20grams. The instructions were a little confusing to begin with but we soon worked it out amongst us.

Great for maths looking at ratios We were writing procedures - instructions so they wrote up their cake recipes. This was a amazing kit thank you very much. I used this kit with my 26 children - a Year 7 & 8 class. We spent a lot of time exploring the differences between physical and chemical changes - this kit was a great prompt for that. The children loved investigating the properties of the different baking products - flour, sugar, egg and fat. This was definitely an area that the children knew little about. So was a great prompt. The cake making was fun - we were unsure how to add the fat (oil/melted butter or creamed butter with the sugar so we made our base cake all three ways to discover which one the children preferred). There was a lot of hesitation and disappointment initially when I showed the cans of vegies and discussed that we were going to research healthy alternatives to make our cake healthier by having less sugar and fat etc. Anyway once we got cooking and they became the experimental chefs and tasted their products which to their surprise were not too bad the buy in grew and the experimentation with baking grew and they wanted to try more than the one variation. So wonderful kit!! Thank you for the idea, support material and sponsorship. Kids have since come to me and told me that at home they have tried substituting ingredients and its been a success.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Students love cake, and were motivated by being able to "sneak"in veges but keep the taste. They enjoyed discussing how much they could add without it tasting funny.

We loved this. Unfortunately due to lockdown we were unable to complete the kit during term 3, but we thoroughly enjoyed the planning stage and the test batch. Sudents who completed the kit at home enjoyed it too. Students loved researching which veges would taste best and it was a great opportunity to work on our teamwork skills. We found the kit easy to follow. Some hints or clues about which veges are good for what would have been really helpful as a starting point.

I did find the user guide and website a bit difficult to follow - I found it easier to follow and share ideas when it was on Facebook. The students had fun and came up with some intetesting ideas

We will continue this kit once we are back in school with the other vegetables (we have only substituted corn at this stage), so our learning will be revisited and continued. How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? We conducted the chemistry experiments via zoom in our kitchens and related the science of baking to each of the steps and evaluations along the way. My children got very adept at calculating percentages and proportions and transferring this to weights of

My class was very inspired by this kit and the concept of swapping out ingredients with vegetables. We have been in lockdown in Auckland, so I transferred the 'experimental' aspect of this kit to online, children filled out google forms to create 'test recipes' and then I live-streamed from my kitchen testing out the 3 most popular tests against the control recipe. We relied on my (and my children's) tasting and evaluating of each substitution.
