What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How we can make more recipes healthier. Whether honey is better for us than sugar. Two children in the class have their own bee hive so were able to share a lot about the honey process. Work on the school gardens - planting more veges for further baking.

The children really enjoyed the lessons and we went further looking into separating mixtures and the states of matter amongst other things. As I eat vegan, I was able to show my class other options that would do the same thing as the egg and sugar. We also enjoyed trialling a variety of flours. The base recipe was delicious and led to easy multiplication to double the mixture etc. We had a class party not long after we had done our baking and we had a LOOOOOOOTTTTT of cupcakes!! Lol. I found it difficult to find the place to send feedback - asked for help on the website (on the day it was due) and was told that I had been sent an email. Said I had not received it and that was it for a term- until this email came today. It would have been useful to have all the lessons available at once for planning purposes. Was a great lesson - It is good having the digital copies of the recipe card etc as I would love to do this unit again with another class. THanks heaps!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students now see the connection between baking and science. They have been exposed to how to conduct a fair test and how to change one variable.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? It was part of our science unit this term and fitted in very well, especially when we looked at what makes a fair test and a negative control. It crossed over a little with our maths work on measurement and fractions and percentages.

“We used 'Veggies21' kit in our hub of two year 5/6 classes. It was a shame not to have the scales as it meant finding suitable electronic scales from another source. Overall, the kit was enjoyed by the students. The forms provided were very useful for the students to test their baking.”
