Make Vegetable Cake Reviews

Students enjoyed the trial and error nature of this kit. They enjoyed being able to see different ingredients in the cake and test which one was their favourite. The science behind the kit was well thought out and at an appropriate level for students to understand. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because I found the website quite hard to navigate - for example having to download the lesson plan at the beginning and then keep opening links from there. I found I always had lots of tabs open and got a bit lost at times!

Amazing, hands-on kit which proved to be such a fun way to learn about Science and Inquiry. The students learned so much, were easily engaged in deep discussions, and thoroughly enjoyed the practical aspect of the unit. The corn and apple sauce was used to make our final bake very tasty! Students were keen to experiment further at home so will be interested to see what they have in their lunch boxes during Term 3! Thank you so much for such a wonderful learning experience.

The children absolutely loved this kit. I used this with a group of students aged 5-12 and they all were able to gain new knowledge from this kit. It was awesome to have the science behind the concepts and the children found it fascinating that baking and cooking is science.

This kit was definitely a winner. Our Year 4&5s loved each part of the kit - the physical and chemical change experiments, researching substitutes for ingredients, baking, and of course the taste testing! I was amazed at the amount to knowledge and understanding our students gained throughout this inquiry, especially with all the other events going on throughout the term. We added fruit & vegetable challenges to our home learning which many of our students took part in - how to use left over fruit and vegetables in different ways. A fabulous kit, 10/10 would recommend!

The supporting resources for making a vegetable cake was very helpful and well received. This kit complimented out inquiry this term which included nutrition.- the cross curricula links between mathematics, science and health added depth to our program. Students enjoyed the challenge and opportunity to cook- they were enthusiastic about investigating the qualities of the ingredients they considered using. Our greatest struggle was managing access to in-school equipment -ovens, cooking space etc...with a class of 29 year 8 students, the need to revisit the actual baking aspect of the task over a number of lessons (read one session a week) was a bit impractical for us in hindsight as it required backup cans of vegs for the finetuning phase= costly.

We loved experimenting with the vege kit and seeing how our vegetables changed the structure, taste, texture and bubbles of our cakes. Our theory cakes weren’t that tasty but we ended up using a lot of corn and apple sauce to make our final bake delicious. The bubble strategy was very interesting and we enjoyed trying to work out how to get it perfect. I would definitely do this kit again as the discussions and the learning challenged the children and they thoroughly enjoyed cutting open the cakes and seeing what changed. Thank you School Kit for another great Kit
