“This kit was really awesome. The children really engaged with the science of chemical reactions and were equally engaged with the cake designing and creating. Lots of great learning took place as well as relating to others through collaborating, making decisions and discussions.”
“This kit was great fun! The students loved learning about the different ingredients in a cake and then brainstorming ways to incorporate vegetables to make it healthier. We went with a Chocolate beetroot cake - it was edible but not the best tasting!”
“Well resourced kit with everything you need both practical and online.
We have done a lot of the learning this term and will be baking next term (Term 3) so, photos to follow =)”
“This was a good resource to use. There were fantastic resources provided. Next time we would do it as a whole terms focus as we found you need lots of time to read the information and to complete the testing and production of cakes. The kids were really engaged. Some of the kids went home and had a go at making the base cakes. The substitution of peas didn’t get a high taste factor!”
“Loved the kit. The students had fun trying to think outside of the box for their veggie cakes (not just carrot cake!!). We did veggie cup cakes (6 teams, 6 different recipes) as our first experiment and then they made cakes using a mystery box can of veggies from what you supplied. Great fun and they enjoyed the reflection sheets.”
“My kids absolutely loved the concepts behind this kit. We spent the first few sessions exploring chemical and physical reactions and changes and then began the baking experiments. No photos because I was too busy ensuring the mixture stayed in the bowl and not in the mouths.... what a great kit. Only suggestion would be to have all content available from the start auto help with planning. We were up to the reducing sugar part and it was not available yet.”
“Kids loved this. We certainly learnt a lot about the chemistry of each of the ingredients and the job that they do. One of the responses the kids gave were "who knew we could use veges in a cake. It tasted soooo good!"”
“The kids really enjoyed the hands on approach with this kit and loved making things that they could taste. As teachers we initially found it rather confusing as it was a little open to interpretation.”
