Make Vegetable Cake Reviews

We really liked this kit but found juggling with our overcrowded curriculum with collecting data assessment and ranges of course to be out on with relievers etc really did impact the flow of the teaching and learning. The kids were fascinated by the vegetables though and how things can be adapted and put into cakes and modified the sugar etc. The kids looked forward to trying similar things at home with experiences with fruits and vegetables

Students were very enthusiastic about this unit of work - Got quite competitive with their trials, taste tests, Who knew chickpeas could make nice cupcakes?? A great introduction into our Science Fair work / fair testing etc

The students enjoyed following this process and changing the ingredients while keeping a balance. The veges that were included were helpful. We found the "Base recipe cards"confusing to try and alter. The recipe review sheets were good though.

At first it took a little bit to get my head around it but it was awesome once I worked my way through the information and read what others were saying. It was definitely enjoyed by all especially the students. Lots of engaigng conversations and hands-on investigating. It was cool to be learning alongside of the students. Well done, School Kit and a big thank you to the sponsors for making this possibly.

The student really enjoyed trying the different flavour combinations. Their favourite was corn and apple. They learnt a lot about the science behind making a cake.

Our children were so inquisitive when the package arrived! We left it on our observation table, and they looked with their eyes at some particular items before we started and tried to make sense of these random objects. They absolutely loved engaging with this School Kit. They enjoyed exploring everyday chemical reactions and what makes them happen, and how fun science and maths can be, especially the balloon experiment! There were many gasps and excited jumps as they saw it do it’s magic. They enjoyed being judges with the first trial bake of simplicity with the balanced 60g across the board, and explored new vocabulary in a food setting like texture and structure. Then the crazy learning started to happen. Questions like “how can avocado replace butter?” And “how can carrot replace sugar?” Our research started and their eyes were opened when they found out what healthy alternatives they could bring in as substitutes for their bases. After their different sessions of baking, and discussing what worked/what didn’t, they did the final bake off on Friday with two special guest judges (their awesome student teacher and our amazing teacher aide). We were amazed to find out that there were a handful of delicious cupcakes that we would bake again with VEGETABLES instead of sugar. What an awesome learning opportunity for our tamariki. Thanks so much for giving us this opportunity to engage with learning in a different way.

A highly engaging kit for my Year 3-8 class. The activities were engaging and the students learnt a lot about chemical reactions and substitutes for stain ingredients. They even learnt about how to work out why their own cake recipes didn’t work and how to fix them next time. Thanks Nestle and Schoolkit for an interesting and , engaging kit for our students.
