What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children love food, maybe the science of freezing in the kitchen could work.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? The video clips were useful and I made a matching task with the information. We also took the muffins out at different times to observe and smell.

The hands on learning and relating to a science was a great fit. I had to teach to a younger audience but it went well and we had good discussions around the substitutions and why they would work or might be a bit risky. When we thought about other flours we knew we could predict that the corn or chick peas could work and that beets and apple could work for the sugars.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think it was a great opportunity to mix and "hide' maths and science into a learning opportunity. I would like to explore other ways to incorporate such a. mixture into future teaching.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Our students often think Science is boring, but they absolutely loved this kit. The idea of using vegetables in baking shocked them. For some reason they didn't realise carrot cake actually had carrot in it. It was good to slow them down to be more precis

Which kids don't love anything to do with food. Food naturally increases student engagement. The outcomes were amazing. Another 'hit kit' to add to the rotation.

My class loved this kit and they were so engaged adapting the recipe with the different vegetables. They were pleasantly surprised at how delicious their cakes were and they were excited to try making new and improved recipes at home. It was a fun and hands on way to link science and chemical reactions into the sessions. Thank you for another exciting and engaging kit.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Anything involving food is engaging. Some had never baked before so this was a new experience. I have given a neutral score for scientific thinking as I did not cover it in great depth. My class had changed from the time I ordered the kit to the time it a

We had an awesome time making the cakes. They were surprised, as was I, by how easy it was to make a cake with only 4 ingredients. The math was challenging for them but they worked it out. The vegetable cakes were delicious. Everybody tried some.

My class loved this kit - we got started later than expected and are finishing our mahi this week. They really liked the challenge of veges in cakes and picked up the concept of 'chemical change' with ease due to the great links you had in the planning.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Like all good cross curricular lessons, children are having fun, and don’t realise that they are learning. The scales were a great tool for this, as very precise measurements were needed. We had a bit of trouble initially with understanding chemical react

Thanks for a great School Kit, yet again. Many of our children don’t bake in the traditional way. This was a thought provoking kit, with children having to do a lot of thinking about what the different parts of the recipe actually did, and how changing some of these would work. Surveying others for their thoughts, and having to find their own courage (for some) to actually try the different outcomes, was a great process to go through to encourage a growth mindset, alongside the science of it all. The children were astounded that you can bake with veggies, although we didn’t quite get the sweetness level right. This is a kit that we will use again next year. Ka may te wehi.

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Involving any aspect of food always engages the kids more. They loved being able to eat the cake and experiment using different vegetables. The most interesting idea was to use baking soda and vinegar as a bubble strategy, we learnt lost about the importa

My class loved this kit! Especially because it involved food. It was fun to learn the science aspect as well and we spent some time exploring different physical and chemical changes. It was quite different as I did this with about half my class in level 3 lockdown so it was a bit more manageable baking with smaller groups.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As a teacher of year 7&8 we were fortunate to utilise technology room facilities but it gets you thinking about what opportunities there are for cooking in the classroom. We will prep some items for school camp in the new year (apples from the orchard int

How did the context of baking a cake help engage your students in science and maths learning? Great context for learning in a real life situation. We got talking about algebra and substitution, grams and accuracy. We had done a procedural writing focus earlier in the year so the recipe writing and reviewing was a great chance to see what they coul

This kit was awesome and enabled a lot of practical activity. The digital scales were awesome for a small group measuremt practice activity in class adn to learn to be accurate. Kids love to cook adn this sparked interest in learning about Science, Maths and made motivation for writing. Students suprised themselves with the use of chickpeas and beetroot. Some cakes were still very tasty despite the reduction of sugar and that was a nice real life learning suprise. Some of course were not so tasty!
